The Albany Kart Club On the 10th of March 1990 a group of Albany locals gathered at the old Albany TQ track, which was situated at the current Kart track site. They formed the now thriving Albany Sprint Kart Club.
7 months later on the 14 th October 1990 they held their first race meeting. The following year Albany come under the umbrella of the Australian Karting Association by affiliating with the then Western Australian Karting Association.
With a current membership of 33 members a lot of water has pasted under the bridge since the first open race meeting on the 2 February 1991. In 1993 the then mainly concrete track was re-designed and finished with a polymer hot-mix.
The club is well respected with Karters from as far away as Port Hedland attending their open meetings. Two of Albany Sprint Kart Clubs most important meetings are the Valvoline Challenge in January, followed the next month by the Wayne Whitham Memorial Trophy.
As with a lot of Western Australian Karting locations, Albany is a great tourist destination. Its natural attractions are world renowned. So if you are venturing down that way, take your camping and fishing gear. And if you have time to spare, book into one of the local motels and take the time to see the sights.
